Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Auckland, report having held their usual weekly sale of hides, skins, tallow, etc., on Tuesday 10th, inst., clearing a large catalogue. Hides Market keeping very firm. We quote —Stout ox BJd, stout 7d to 7|d, medium 6£d to 61d, light 6|d to 6fd, cow, best lines to 6|d, good lines 6Jd to 6£d inferior s*d to s|d, stags ihd to sd, kips 6d to 64d, calf, best BJd, good 6Ad to 7d, damaged hides 3Jd to 4£d. Sheepskins—Market brisk. Butchers' best pelts and lambs to 4s 2d, good 3s to 3s lOd, medium 2s 9d to 2s lid, small Is 6d to 2s 3d, dry skins, large to 5s 6d. Tallow —Market continues firm. Best mixed 27s 6d, good 26s 6d, medium 22s to 235, rough fat l|d to Ifd per lb. Cow tails—ls 8d per dozen. Horse hair—ls to Is 64d per lb. Bones —£4 17s 6d per ton.
Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Auckland, have received the following cable from their London Office, under date 12th inst :—Frozen Meat.—Lamb —Genuine demand for lower descriptions, market firm but prices unchanged. Mutton —Since our last wire prices are lower by &d to Jd. Beef — Market firm but prices unchanged. Wool sales. —The fourth series have been fixed to open July 12th. Limited to 160,000 bales net new arrivals provided the quantity be reached before the Bth day prior to the of the sales. No wools arriving after that date will be admitted. Sales continue. Prices are on a par with the highest point of these sales compared with last sales closing rates. Merino wools par to 5 per cent, higher, crossbred wools fine and medium quality and wools suitable for America 5 per cent, lower. Crossbred wools of other descriptions unchanged. Total net quantity available amounted to 177,000 bales,. Sold to America 4000 bales, sold to Home consumption 94,000 bales, sold to the Continent 54,000 bales, not offered 21,000 bales, carried forward 25,000 bales. Tallow —Since our last wire prices are lower by 6d perewt. Buyers are holding off. There will be no public sales next week. Butter. — Market dull and nothing doing. Speculators "bearing" the market. No difference in demand for salted or unsalted. Total imports into the United Kingdom for week ending 7th inst 93,000 cwt, as compared with 70,000 cwts. for the corresponding period of last year. The Copenhagen official quotation is 4 kroners (4s 6d) lower. We quote:—Danish butter 114s, finest Australian salted and unsalted 104s, New Zealand salted 106s, Australian first class salted 108s, but this price is exceptional. Cheese—Market weak. Coloured 56s to 575, white 57s to 58s.
The : N. Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:—We held our usual monthly stock sale at Cambridge on Friday when 148 fat steers and cows and 520. store cattle were yarded, also sheep and pigs. Of the beef only four pens of steers failed to reach reserves: all steers sold at most satisfactory prices, there being keen competition for all classes. Fat steers made £6 16s to £8 2s 6d, fat cows £4 12s 6d to £5 12s 6d, heifers £4 10s to £5, 3J year steers in forward condition £5 2s to 5£ 15s, stores £4 15s to £4 17s, 20-month do. £2 15s to £2 17s, store cows £2 to £2 12s 6d, do. in fresh condition £3 to £3 15s, well grown calves, mixed sexes £1 10s to £1 13s 6d, others, smaller £1 Is to £1 7s, dairy cows close to profit £6 15s to £7, do. more backward £3 12s 6d to £5 ss, Holstein heifers in calf £5 ss, Shorthorns £4 15s; woolly hoggets 9s Id to 10s 6d, lambs 6s Id; porkers 18s, weaners 0s 6d to 10s.
