BOROUGH ELECTIONS.
! Result of fhc Poll. The result of the election for the Mayoralty of Te Kuiti was given out by the Returning Officer (Mr John Tammadge, from the Public Ilall, shortly before 8 o'clock on Wednesday evening last as follows: RODDIE. James 199 HETET, John T. 126 SIMS, Frederick Herbert 84 LUSK, Daniel .Henderson 10 Informal 3 Mr Roddio being accordingly declared Mayor of Te Kuiti, the result of the poll war, the signal for a great outburst of prolonged cheering. Mr Boddie briefly returned thanks and referred to the amicable spirit in which the contest had been fought. The time would come, and was not fardistant perhaps, when those he had defeated that day would be placed in the position he had been placed in, and he, for his part, would do all in his power to assist them. He complimented the returning officer and his start' upon the arrangements made for the conduct of the poll and stated that the result would be received with gratitude thoughout New Zealand. He called Cor three cheers for the defeated candidates, which were readily Hjgiven. N| Mr F. H. Sims, who was cordially pHreceived, spoke a few words, thanking || hi a supporters for their assistance that jfjda.v, and calling for cheers for tho SfflMayor-elect. He invited all the candiradates for municipal honours to light |«refrcshments at his house. An ad||journment was accordingly made and and friends spent a very Sspleasant hour toasting tho liorough to whose efforts the present Gaßorough is primarily dim, the host and Ishostess, and his Majesty the King. ||jDuring the evening Mr Finlay, re(jsjferring to the result of the Mayoral gljcontest, expressed a hope that Mr Sims Sjwould allow himself 1o he nominated |3for any extraordinary vacancy on the gsCouncii that might; arise, and Mr Sims, |ain replying, while not pledging himpromised to favourably consider Ksjthe suggestion. (Cheers.)
