BOROUGH ELECTIONS.

Ticket Selected. With a view to having a definite number of candidates for the Borough Council, a meeting of all persona whose names were mentioned as likely candidates to stand was held last evening. The question of who was to stand for the Mayoralty was also dealt with. The three aspirants for the Mayoral chair unreservedly placed themselves in the hands of the meeting and pledged themselves in the event of their not being selected to stand out of the election and to do all they could for the election of the selected candidate. The meeting, which was thoroughly representative of the business people and residents generally on election, by ballot, chose Mr James Boddie as the candidate for the position. There being some nineteen gentlemen present who were mentioned as probable candidates for the Council, a ballot was taken to decide who amongst them should go to the poll for election. These gentlemen also, prior to the ballot, pledged themselves to abide by the result and if not themselves chosen, to further to the best of their ability the cause of the selected candidates. The result was that Messrs F. H. Sims J. Mclndoe R. M. Somerville C. H. Hardy C. Stevens Major Lusk R. J. Cotter M. J. Jones s W. Lorigan were selected, and these gentlemen will be the candidates for the election on the 4th May. The utmost good feeling prevailed during the meeting and it speaks well for the public spiritedness of those present that they sank their private feelings and with the well being of the town in view, settled the difficult question so unanimously.
