Clevedon Branch.

The regular monthly meeting of the Clevedon branch was held in Mr Norrick's dining-room last Friday evening. Present Messrs A.. Schmitt (chairman), Colbeck, S. A. Browne, F. Poynter, A. McNicol, A. White, were unanimously agreed upon: —"That this Conference of the Farmers' Union believe it is essential to keep pace with the development of the Auckland province, that there should be an increased expenditure on railway construction; that the East Coast and North Trunk lines should be pushed on to completion with the uttermost rapidity consistent with judicious management; that pressure should be brought to bear upon the North Island members to unite in restraining railway expenditure in the South until their excess of 436 miles of open lines be brought to a more equitable balance by extensions in the North; that the Auckland Chamber of Commerce and the Auckland Railway League being the most central and influential bodies be asked by this conference to take a vigorous lead in the vindication of our right and legitimate claims to quick railway extension in the province." The annual meeting is to take place on Saturday, April 23rd, and a dinner and smoke concert in the evening.
