LAND FOR SELECTION.
Unsatisfied Demand. Another striking evidence of the existing land hunger and the extent to which it has to go unsatisfied wa i forthcoming when, at the Crown Lands Board's room on Friday last, 27 sections of land, comprising 4472 acr.es, under the optical system of tenure, were ballotdteor on Friday. Tnere were 444 received, representing no less than 220 applicants. The highest number of applications for any one section was 66. All those who went to the baliot were landless, a number of the applications being struck out owing to the fact that they owned land. This principle was applied to one man who only owned three acres.
