MARAKOPA.

Own Correspondent. On Easter Monday a very successful Sunday School picnic was held. The day's festival was under the management 'of the local schoolmaster, Mr Honore, who is deserving of credit for having so successfully carried out the programme. At mid-day a dainty spread, prepared by the ladies, was served out in the school. Next followed the distribution of Sunday school prizes, Mr Honore referred, in the course of his speech, to the immense ?nd lasting benefits accruing from a study of the Scriptures. Because of its ethical, historical, and literary value, the Bible should be studied by senior pupils. The sectarian difficulty might be overcome if a course of Scripture teaching was drawn np by ministers of the several churches. Mrs Stanley, who was given a vote of thanks for the interest taken in the- Sunday school, consented to distribute the prizes. The ceremony in the school was concluded by the pupils singing "God be With You Till we Meet Again." The following are the results of the leading sports events of the picnic:— Soys' race (over ten), Rangi Waamu J. Girls' race (oyer ten), Olive Willison 1. Swimming, Ben McGrath 1. Girls' boat race, won by Mary Carr and 0. Willison. Boys' boat race, won by Ben McGrath and Pu Kamana. Boys' chop, Ben McGrath 1, T. Wouldes 2. Mr Wouldes, the chairman of the school committee, arranged for a free phonograph entertainment at night. The hall had been secured free of charge for the day, it being the custom, as originally arranged by the shareholders of the hail, not to charge for public meetings, church services and children's festivals. A little dancing was indulged in by children and guardians between the musical selections on the phonograph. A vote' of thanks to'Mr Bonore for having so successfully carried out the da£ies of president, "was proposed by Mr Dan ¥/ouldes, and a most enjoyable day came to an end on the stroke of jnidnight.
