MARAKOPA.

At the annual general meeting of the Kawhia Harbour Main Trunk Railway.League, held at Je Anga, on March 19th, the following gentlemen were elected as executive committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs Haylock (chairman), Fairfax, Arrnitage, Ellmers, J. P. Wright, Ross, Wouldes, Stanley J. Shaw, L. Arrnitage, Stokes, Holmes, Neeley, and D. Tynan (secretary). Mr Fairfax was elected vicechairman and Messrs Arrnitage and Smith auditors. The individual members of the executive committee were empowered to collect subscriptions on behalf of the League. Messrs Tynan and Fairfax were appointed delegates to the Kawhia Railway League, to formulate a working scheme and fix boundaries for the respective leagues to work to. It was arranged to hold the next meeting of the executive on Saturday, April 16th, when the work of cavassing the district would be fully gone into. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr Jennings, M.P., and Mr McCardle, M.L.C., for their efforts on' behalf of the League in urging on the Government the importance of having a trial survey made between Kawhia and the Main Trunk line, a similar compliment to the chairman (Mr Haylock) concluded the business,
The question of ereeting saleyards at Te Anga was gone into the same afternoon and it was decided to call a meeting of those interested for April 16th, when the matter could be threshed out, the calling of the meetingto be left in the hands of Messrs Haylock and another member. Road-work is proceeding as fast as the available funds will permit, Mr Lunie having let several contracts on the Marakopa Valley and Kairimu roads. .The suspension bridge over the Marakopa river at Te Anga is also started, Mr Neilson and gang being at work while Mr Johnston and party are making a start with the bridge across the Kairimu, Quite a number of people visited the Piri Piri caves after the sports at Marakopa, a party of 25 -being piloted thereto by Dr Campbell Jenkins, of Kawhia. There is no doubt when these caves become better known that there will be a very considerable number of visitors attracted to Te Anga where the caves are situated.
