LOCAL AND GENERAL NEWS.

Mr. Weingott, the well-known piano and organ tuner annoabees his usual annual visit to this town and district about next Monday. Mr. Weingott told us last year he did big business in Te Kuiti, and we think he will not be short of engagements this visit. The Te Kumi races will be held on Wednesday, March 16th, and a good programme is promised in the seven events advertised. Prize money ol nearly £2O will be given. Nominations close at Te Kuiti with the secretary, Mr. Katu Tohiariki, on March 10th.

The weight-guessing competition at the. Te Kuiti Sports resulted as follows:—Correct weight of two sheep, 1301bs. Harry Turner and H. Nicholson both of Te Kuiti, guessed the actual weight. Guesses were somewhat: wide apart, and ranged from 951bs up to 2791b5. Householders should note that Mr. C. B. Lever will hold an unreserved sale of furniture at the Te Kuiti brewery on Thursday next, on account of Mr. G. A they, who is leaving the district. Anyone wanting furniture should not miss this opportunity of securing articles at their own prices; evex*ything is practically new and in first-class order, having been in use only a few months. A more economical method of booking parcels sent by parcels post is now in operation. The sender is required to fill in a special card c.n which must be given particulars of the address and name of the sender. By means of numbered labels in duplicate, one of which will be affixed to the parcel and the other to the card, trace will be kept of all parcels posted. Firms which send many parcels by parcels post can obtain small quantities of cards at the Post Office. A commencement has this week been made with the erection of a private telephone line between Av/akino and Messrs Newton King 2nd C. F. Atkinson's place at Nakuhskari, which will be of great service to the peepfe living on the coast line, viz., Messrs Elliott, Bayly, Tv/eedte Bros., Harrison Bros., Wynyard and Otway, as also for shij>pinat Nukuhakari. A connection between that place and Marskopa, a distance of about six miles, would join up the Kawbia circuit.

Messrs Dalgety and Co., will hold their Hamilton stock sale on Saturday, March sth, instead of their usual day, Thursday, on account of the first day of the Waikato A. and P.
