CORRESPONDENCE.

Sir,—-In your Saturday's Issue I read with intense pleasure that eight chainH of metal had been placed on tho To Kuiti-Awakino road since the work started on the Wednesday previous.; - but I was astonished to read tho next few sentences following, viz., "Work is proceeding as fast as drays can bring the metal up. Unfortunately, this is just one of the difficulties, as there arc not sufficient drays availabo to keep the metal crusher working at its utmost, and the result is progress is not being made as fast as it would under different circumstances." Now, I know of at least half a dozen teams anxious to undertake tho work, and an it is next door to a criminal action that fine weather should he allowed to pass and teams remain idle, I would like to know whether you arc correct in your report, or I have, been milled in this matter.—l am, etc., G. ELLIOTT, Mapiu.

(What we said was correct. There was a shortage of drays, but it was tip drays, not ordinary waggons, that were preferred by the engineer. Since the matter was last referred to in tho "Chronicle," wo have been informed that, in order to push on the work as speedily as possible, the engineer has decided to make use of ordinary waggons.—Ed. K.C.C.)
