MAROKOPA.

Own Correspondent.

A good muster of 'subscribers turned up at the Hall on January 15th, when the elcetion of „a hall- committee was the. principal business on hand. Mr P Rose, of Kiritehere, was in the chair, and the following gentlemen were elected for, the ensuing .twelve months: Messrs Wouldes, Rose, Templemarj,' ?au, Stanley (treasurer) and Ogilvy (secretary). The chairman made complimentary reference to the good work done by the retiring treasurer, Mr WiUison, who has taken so much interest in matters affecting the progress of Marckopa. The holding of a regatta was next discussed, and the greatest enthusiasm was shown, the Sum of £1.2 being subscribed in the rccm, which, should enable the committee to make a gocd showing on the day. It was proposed to hold the meeting on the 17th of March, and to include running events on the programme. Mr Thorn, of Mangaohae, attended on behalf of subscriber's to the proposed telephone line down the Kiritehere Valley to Marokopa, for which a guraantee is required. A fair amount of support was forthcoming, and it is expected that enough money will soon be in'hand to allow of a start being made-to'erect the'line.

The s.s. Pitoitoi, which is again under the charge of the popular Captain Williamson, made, a trip from Wintara last week, taking back a Ipad or timber for Mr jredals; This boat is expeced to take timber from' the mill at Kairimu on her next trip, and will probably trade between this port

and'Kawhia, if the s.s. Rothesay as reported, is going off at the end of the month.

Mr S. H. Carr has sold cut his farm at Piri Piri to Mr Wrattan, late of Waitomo. There has been a good deal of inquiry lately by outside buyers from sections in this district, and probably some of the farms about here will be changing owners shortly.

The continued wet weather is seriously interfering with shearing lambs. Quite a lot of sheep will be coming in here after the sheep fairs. Rose Bros brought in a nice even line of 320 two-tooth ewes last week, landing them in good condition.
