MAROKOPA KIRITEHERE.

School Sports and Prize-Giving. Own Correspondent. The children's picnic and sports in connection with the Marokopa School were held in Mr Kawe's parklike grounds at Kaiwaka, Marokopa on Friday, 17th December, The games started.at 12 o'clock, and continued without intermission till nearly dark. A ladies' committee, consisting of Mesdames Carr, Willison, Stanley, Wouldes and Smart, provided a delightful cold collation which was hugely relished by all present. . . After tea all gathered in the Public Hall, where the school children gave recitations, etc. The gem of the evening, judging by the' thunderous ppplause, was the item by little May Carr; This little maiden fairly "beat the band"; she recited with great naivete; and showed strong indications of histrionic ability. She concluded in a perfect storm of cheering. Miss Oily YVillison's contribution was also exceptionally well done. Mr Bell, senr., of Hari Hari, then distributed the.numerous prizes, after which he addressed the large crowd present, and drew attention to the wonderful strides the children had made during the past year and congratulated the district on having a teacher of such ability and perseverance as Mr Honore, finishing his short address with a few remarks about the aoproaching festive season. Dancing, interspersed with songs, occupied the remainder of the evening. A duet by Mrs E. C. Stanley arid Mr Bell senr., was much appreciated—it is rarely indeed that such a lovely soprano voice as Mrs Stanley's is heard in a country udistrict. Another exceptionally good item was a Scotch song by Mr T. Lane, a new settler here, and who we hope to hear again shortly. The whole day's events went with a snap and bang- from 12 a.m. to 12 p.m., and as Cousin Jonathan would say, everything was "bully." The management committee, Messrs John Wouldes, Bonore, Willison and Spencer Rose, are to be congratulated for the splendid way that the day and evening's programme was managed.
