OHURA.
I The Annual picnic in connection -with i the Mangaroa School was held on New Year's Day! There were about sixty children present, and parents also attended in force. Unfortunately/ the weather Was showery "until the afternoon, but. after three o'clock the weather was all that could be desired and a very enjoyable time was spent. Messrs Clarke, Seerup, and Mcßa.e, members of the Committee, tiad charge of the programme and ' carried things out in excellent-style. Races for the; children were provided and games were indulged in between the showers. Refreshments, provided by the ladies, were done: full justice, and the picnic will be memorable to the little ones, despite the rain, as one of the brightest days. Messrs Meldrum, Muir, and Howie, kindly lent a sheep for a "guessing competition and interest ,in the event was .keen. . ; Mr Hope proved to be the most successful guesser, his estimate of the weight being 971bs. Quite a number of others guessed 901bs, but all were considerably below the actual weight, which proved to be 1121bs dresesd. This is not a bad specimen of Qhura mutton, and says much for the pasture on which the animal was fattened. . „
