(Suggested by hearing Mr F. C. Stuart, who id an accomplished Highland dancer and piper, playing that goul-inspiring air, "The Cock o' the North."on his bagpipea at the Otangtwai school concert). I hear the bagpipes playiog, An' ma thochts vaah baefc to thee, Bonnie Scotland, land o'freedom, f'ar ayont the sounding sea. An' again F feel the rapture 0* life'* sunny summer days. When I romped a bareftt lassie, Over thy bonnie gowanic braes. 'Tia the music o' the raoirians, Tis the music ©' the hills, I can hear the curlews calling, ; 'Bune the tinkling o" the rills; ' An' t at'ti again the heroes Clad in tartan kilt an* plaid, Marching to thy martial mosie, <ur* the sweetest ever played. An' [ tread the purple heatlier, Him' the peaks that pierce the sky. ,v-o the bUck faced sh«e.pgangroamiog, H-\-ir th«- hilt birds eerie cry; I-'or ma h«rt's in thee dear Scotland, An' I i'.lim' again the braes, t harmed with the music wafting The sweet strains o' bygane days. —HIGHLAND LASSIE.
