The petitioner states that lie purchased the Harihari run for £SOOO on the strength of a letter received by him in 1906 from the Auckland Land Boar J. This letter stated that the lc3se could be converted according to the then existing Act. The Land Act of 1907, hewever, took away that power. The committee reported that it had no recommendation to make, whereupon .Mr Jennings moved that the petition be referred back to the committee for reconsideration. This motion, which was supported by Messrs Grcenslade, Lang. Merries, and Guthrie was carried. Mr Massey in subsequently 3peak- i ing to a question on the same subject, J also pointed out the disadvantage at j which the holders or the small grazing runs have been placed by the passu ig of the Act of 1907.
