DISTRICT REQUIREMENTS.

Since the opening of the present Session of Parliament Mr W. T. Jennings, member for the district, has been kept very busy in urging requests from various portions of bis extensive electorate upon the Ministers in charge of different Departments. In connection with the petition of Tokirtma residents for a telephone line between Tatu ?nd Tokirima, the following letter has been received: "Dear Sir. lam in receipt of your letter vt lb>? 2nd November covering petition from residents at Tokirima urging that a telephone line be constructed fioro Tatu to Tokirima. In reply I have lo say that the representations contained in the correspondence are noted and I shall give the matter my consi Juration.—Yours faithfully, J. G. Ward." With reference to the construction of the bridge over the Mangawhitikau river the Minister for Public Works writes to say that, as a result of enquiries, he is advised that the timber is all on the ground and the Department's Engineer proposes to commence the bridge as soon as the state of the road will permit of the pile driver being carted to toe site. Regarding the Native School at Kopoa, Mr Jennings has received the following letter from the Minister of Education:— M Sir,—With reference to your enquiry on behalf of Mr Searancke, of Kakepoku, Te Kopua, as to the re-opening of the Native School at the latter place I have the honour to inform you that the Department has had considerable difficulty in finding a teacher for the school. Three of the teachers* who were formerly in charge of the school suffered in health through the unfavourable surroundings and the dampness of the climate, and the last teacher had to be transferred on this account. To meet the difficulty it is now proposed to remove Mr R. A. Douglas, the teacher of the Native School at Wbarekahika, flicks Bay, to |Te Kopua, and he has been instructed i to take up his new duties with the least : possible delay." The following letter with reference to the request of the settlers affected ! for a telephone line between Marokopa j and Ratanpi has been received by Mr I Jennings: -"Sir, Referripg to the repI resenUtions made by the deputation i introduced by you on the 23rd October i last, consisting of Messrs Rose and King and Major Losk, from Southern Kawbia, about the erection of a telephone line from Marokopa to Ratanui ■ via Kiritcbere, Moeatoa and Mangao- ■ bae, I have the honour to inform you [ that the desired telephone line will be erected on • guarantee being given in accordance with the terms and condi- ; lions set out on the attached sheet to ; pay a subsidy of £69 a year for five years. —I have the honour to be, Sir, Your obedient servant, J. G. Ward."
