DISTRICT PARS.

— The last issue of the Government Gazette notifies that ninety one sections in the Mapara Tangitu and Aria Survey Districts are open for lease as the Tangitu Improved Farm Special Settlement. The sections vary in size from 117 acres to 198 acres, the approximate area of the whole block being 16,642 acres. The setting apart of a block of 15 acres in Matiere village in town and suburban lots is also notified; while an area of 14§ acres at Mangaroa is similarly treated. The matter of the erection of a bridge over the Ongarue river near Taumarunui was discussed at a public meeting at Taumarunui on Friday evening last. Mr Jennings, member for the district, who was present at the meeting said he had seen the Hon. Minister of Public Works just before he left Wellington, and the Minister stated that the bridge would cost more than was anticipated, and the Government would give £2 for every £1 subscribed by the local bodies interested. Mr Jennings pointed out that it would be impossible for the local bodies up here to subscribe, as the township had no money at present; so the Minister saidhe would try and do something in j the matter, though something else would have to go. Representations having been made by Mr Jennings, M.P.„ with a view of ' having the Mangaroa-Tongaporutu road cleared of slips, a reply has been received from the Minister for Public Works stating that the matter will receive consideration when the Estimates for the current year are being framed. Mr Jennings, in speaking at Kinohaku on Monday evening last said he was frequently called the roads and bridges member of the House. The remark was not meant to be complimentary by those who used it, but he felt that no higher compliment could be paid him, seeing that be represented a district in which roads and bridges meant so much to the progress and prosperity of the people. Tht pupils at Te Kuiti School are now collecting subscriptions for the annual school picnic, which is to be held on Friday, December 17th, on which date the distribution of school prizes will also take place. At a meeting of the Te Kuiti Cemetery Trustees held in Mr Sims' boarding houseon Monday evening, Mr J. ; Nicholls presiding, it was decided on i the motion of the Rev. G. H, Morse, ; seconded by Mr W. Lorigan, that Mr Nicholls he appointed to give permission for graves to be 'lug, and to collect fees, and that the plan of the burial ground he kept by Mr Nicho;.
