OHURA VALLEY.

~ - Own Correspondent. Dairying in the Obura is making steady progress and matters show a very promising aspect for future expansion. Tbe season, of course has been an exceedingly favourable one for feed, and supplies to tbe factories have been steadily increasing. The Cooperative Factory at Nibo Nibo is turning out now nearly 10 boxes of batter per week as compared with 7} boxes at tbe corresponding period East year. A further gratifying feature is that the price obtained this season is Sd per lb., anincrease of 2d oo the price obtained last season. The creamery at Otangiwai is also showing a substantial increase in tbe amount deaJt with, while tbe cream packed from Mangaroa is well maintained. Hitherto tbe output has been somewhat uneven, some being graded first and some second grade. For some time past however, tbe whole of the output has been first grade, and the value will be enhanced materially. In one respect only this season is a retrograde step noticeable. During tbe first two years the cost of carting the hotter from the factory to Ongarue was 30s per ton. This year the carting is costing £2 ss. and considering the state of tbe roads it cannot be dented that the increase is warranted. Without a doubt the construction of good roads is absolutely essential to success in dairying and it is to be hoped oar main road will be metalled in the near future. I bear there is a likelihood of some of tbe side roads being metalled by special loan, and tbe settlers interested are to be complimented on their enterpirse.
