WANTED: A CORONER.
RECENT events in this district have onec more forcibly demonstrated the pressing need for the appointment of a Coroner at Te Kuiti. It was long ago realised that a Coroner was necessary in such an extensive and rapidly growing district and application was made to the Government to have the appointment made. Apparently the request has been shelved, and considering that the Cabinet has been reconstructed since the application was made there is every reason why the request should be reiterated. It is obviously an anomaly to find that a town and district such as Te Kuiti posesses should require to have its coronial business transacted at Te Awamutu, a town of smaller population and entirely disassociated from the King Country centre. In our district as population increases deaths are becoming frequent and the proportion of sudden deaths is high. It follows that the necessity for a Coroner for the district is increasing and if th* need was apparent a year or two ago, it must have reached the urgent stage long since. It is to be hoped the authorities will be induced to take early action in this matter, which is of particular importance, inasmuch as it will lighten in some degree the care and responsibility I of people at a period when they require every consideration which can ] be extended to them.
