RATANUI TOWNSHIP.
- - Work Authorised. For some conesiderable time an agitation had been carried on by the settlers at Ratanui with the object of having the township, which is all in the bush, felled ana grassed. The work was rendered necessary from the fact that it was impossible for Bettlers to carry on necessary improvements until tbe bu=h in question was cleared. It will therefore be learned with satisfaction that the work is to be in put hand by the Government, Mr Jennings having received the following letter on the subject from the Minister: —
"Sir, Re Ratanui Township: Referring to the deputation of Ratanui settlers consisting of Mr King, Mr Rose and another, which you introduced to me on the 23rd ult., and their request in connection with the felling of the bush on the Ratanui Township Reserve, the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Auckland, has already been instructed to have the bush felled, and for this purpose I have anticipated the sum which Parliament will be asked to authorise for the work in question. As soon as the bush on the Township site has been felled ana burnt, grass seed will be sown, and the area then subdivided into suitable areas."
