MANGAPEHI.
Own Correspondent.
'On Friday evening last a grand ptain ; and fancy dress ball was given by the bachelors of Mangtpebi. The affair was in every way a huge success, the ! only fault being tbat the ball was not : large enough. Had it been twice the i size it would have made dancing just ; pleasant for the large crowd that attended. The buildiftg had been tost*ol!y dcorated with bunting and greenery by an energetic committer, onder the able leadership of their secretary, Mr W. Young. An excellent programme of dances was drawn op and carried through by the M's.C., Messrs H. Johnson, J. Hist and P. Colter. The music was supplied by Mr W. Hogg's Orchestra, and its quality was of the best. A conspicuous point about the ball was the large number of fancy dresses worn, the varied colours of which blended prettily in the Grand March, and the subsequent dances. At 11.30 p.m. an excellent supper was partaken of in the building formerly used as a school rooom, and the caterers deserve every credit for the quality of the repast provided. Dancing was continued with unabated vigour until 3.30 a.m. when all retired weary yet contented.
