NATIVE LAND PURCHASES.
During the past year the Maori land purchase operations of the Government only reachfd a total area of 6935 acres. To complete that area "V a total sum of was paid. Of the area so purchased 6-SSS acres, costing £3544, were in the Auckland, and 357 acres, costing £2130, were in the Hawkes Bay districts. The UnderSecretary for Grown Lands, Mr W. C. Kensington, in his report, goes or, to say that, should Parliament provide the necessary authorities, it is proposed to continue the purchase of Maori lands where the owners are willing ro sell, and place their lands in the har:c:s of the various Maori Land Be a ' " - that purpose.
