RANGITIKEI ELECTION.
Second Ballot Necessary. The election for the Rangitikei seat rendered necessary owing to the death of Mr A. E. Remmington, gave rise to considerable interest. Owing to the retirement of Mr Hutchison the Opposition vote was not split and Mr Hockly beaded the poll. The two straight out Government supporters in Messrs Smith and W. Mcldrum polled well while the Independent and Labour candidates in Mr Ceorgetti and Mr Hornblow, had equal supporters. A second ballot between Messrs Hcckly and Smith will require to be taken and judging from present appearances a close contest may be expected. Though the seat has been held by a Government supporter for a long time tbe majority in favour of Mr | Remington at the last election was J only 128. It will thus be seen that I tbe issue is decidedly interesting, and ' probably tbe personal element will de- | eide the result Tbe polling at the first ballot waa as ! follows: ; F. F. Hockty, Opposition 1548 ' R. W. Smith, Government, 1055 Wm. Mcldrum, Government, 903 Jas. Georgetti, Independent, 340 R. E. Hornblow, Liberal and Labour 883
