Own Correspondent. With the spread of settlement In the various portions of the district the number of schools that are being established is gradually increasing, the pioneer settlers being ever anxious to secure the benefits of education for their children. The settlers at Putaki intend making an effort In tbia direction and a meeting will be held at Mr L. Vicary's residence, Putaki, on the ; sth inst., for the purpose of discussing the important question of erecting a school in the District. There are several families of school age in the neigh- : bourhood. and parents arc feeling somewhat anxious regarding the neglect of education for their children. It i* to be hoped that a good sum will be raised as the outcome of the meeting and that the settlers will have the gratification of seeing the school erected by the New Year.
