KAWHIA.

Own Correspondent. —Waiharakeke Bridge. -

On Thursday last. 2fith inst.. the » s. Rimo arrived with the long expected timber for the Waiharakeke bridge. The steamer proceeded right up to the bridge and having discharged the timber sailed for Onehunga on Friday evening. Last evening, the s.s. Rothesay left for Onehunga for overhaul and inspection preparatory to resuming her run between Kawhia and Marokepa nest month. Capt. Roberts was in charge of the steamer, having with him Mr S. Easy, engineer, a mate, one deck hand and one fireman. In the ordinary coarse she should have arrived at Onehunga during the forenoon of Friday. therefore considerable anxiety, was felt when rw> word wast received of hor arrival and this was increased wher. Saturday »atne and there were still nn tidings of the vessel. At 2 p.m. on Saturday the s.s. Rimu was despatched from Onehunga in search of the Rothscay. However, late on Saturday night, word was* received that the missing steamer had been picked up, hot no details are at present to hand as to the cause of her prolonged voyage. It b considered here that it is probably due to a mishap to her machinery. Fortunately the wind although strong has been easterly. Had the wind bitn westerly the steamer, which is a small one of only 19 tons register, must have experienced a pretty rough time. The contractors for the additions to the Kawhia wharf, Messrs Scott and Forsyth, expect to have the piles and timber here early next month, and when this arrives the work will be pushed ahead with all speed.
