CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Editor. Sir,—l notice a letter written by Mr Sam. Moore re the game of football played at Aria between the Nchcnohenoi and Mokaoiti teams. Mr Moore states that I had not the courtesy to inform the referee that I was going to lodge a protest on behalf of the Mokauiti team. At the end of the game our team requested me to enter a protest and before leaving the held I went to the referee and told him I was going to do so. The Nrhcnefeenoi by this time were all some distance away and Mr Moore was nowhere to be seen, and being near five o'clock I walked to the post office before closing time. leannot unlerstand why Mr Moore says that f got en my horse and rode to the post office; whereas I swam the river and then walked the rest of the way. Mr Moore was evidently not in the vicinity or he might have seen by what means I reached the post office. Re the second try I consider we were quite justified in disputing the referee's decision. Mr Moore himself at the time remarked to the spectator* that it was a force, and not fair to the Mokauiti team. I wish to state that. although we have entered a protest against the referee's decision, it does not alter the fact that we have always found the Neheneheruti boys a fair and honourable team to play against, and f hope that no unpleasantness or ill feeing shall exist through having to play the game over again. Thanking you in anticipation.-'! am. etc., LEO. REARDON. Hon. Sec. M.E.C. To the Editor. Sir.—l notice in your last issue a fetter signed "Sans Peur" relating to the local poundkeeper. It is becoming too common of late for people tinder a "nom de plume" to attack thos-j hold ing public positions, and much as it may be appreciated in a country like Russia, it is decidedly on-British. "Sans Peur" most know that if he requires any redress it ma/ be- obtained from the County Council, by whom the poundkeeper is employed: but no local b"dy is prepared to take notice of any unsigned tetter written by any irresponsible party; so my advice is: To sign your name next time, "Sans Peur."—l am. etc..
