ARIA.

(Own Correspondent.) On July l?th the Mokauiti and Nehenehenui football teams met on tbe Aria snorts ground in tbe final match for the caps. When time was called the game stood Nehenehenui 9 points, Mokauiti 8 points. The Kaeaea telephone office was opened last week, under the management of Mrs A. McGill, who has been appointed postmistress for the district. The ferry punt at Totoro was carried away last week by the high floods, and is now stranded at Mokau Heads. This is a great lots to settlers, as in the rainy season the river is unfordable, necessitating a detour of fifteen miles to reach Mahoenui from Aria. The Natives charge at the rate of five shillings for crossing each passenger in canoes, and many pay it rather than journey the extra distance. Everything is quiet round Aria, and I hear that all officials of the Roads and Bridges Department have received notice that they will not be required after a certain date. All public works have been stopped, and settlers are lying low allowing the winter season to pass by.
