Adrift on the Ocean of sorrow A soul sailed frail and worn, Its Future unknown as the morrow, Its sails by misfortune torn. Swiftly it went on its course unknown, Its end it knew not where; The spirit of Comfort had from it flown To give place to tha Angel of Care.
With no guiding light to remind it, It drifted in darkness agin; The ghosts of the Past hard behind it, With the Angels of Pity and Pain. Wrecked by the Demons of Gambling and Drink; Drifting on to an unknown shore, Now righting itself; r.ow threatening to sink, With danger behind and before. But the Angel of Temperance flew that way Carrying Hope through the land of Despair, Wrecking the evil under his sway, And the demon which lurketh there. Then the Angel of Hope and the soul again Set out on the River of Life, But gone were the Angels of Care and Pain And the works of a time of strife. E.D.8., Hamilton.
