OUR DEPARTED GUIDE. Dedicated to the Ormsby Family. What means this gloom upon our town, This thriving place,Te Kuiti named? The very sun seems thickly veiled, And heaven hath just itself proclaimed.
By lightning's flash and thunderpeal By weeping clouds which blind the sight, We learn that death did snatch away Our friend.our Councillor.last night. By fatal accident his life Was seized from off this earth, While wending toward his dearest ones His steps. Alas! for all our mirth. The news has spread, and shocked each heart, And then evoked a burst of praise For all the kind and worthy deeds He did, his fellowman to raise. The grief of all his nearest ones Can never be by man expresseJ; Bat yet we feel they'll ever bold The memory of their dear one blessed. And should we not a lesson learn To treasure op good counsel given By those who guide and lead the way Ere they from us and earth be riven. Louisa M. Handyside. July 4th, 1909.
