TE AWAMUTU
From Our Resident Correspondent. We have been fortunate in having, up till lately, a very mild winter. Wintry rains and gales have now set in in earnest, making the want of metal on back block roads very much felt. Tautari Settlement.— Settlers on the Tautari block have worked hard during the last year or two. and what was once a wilderness of fern and bush is now assuming a more civilised aspect. As the holdings are. on the whole, of small area, dairying will have to be the standby. The settlers heve moved in the direction of having a creamery established. The Dairy Association is about to erect one on a central site. —Water Divining.—
The Rev. H. Mason has located water for a nun-ber of farmers in this district. At Hairini boring operations have been pushei ahead, ami in every instance with success. Only one artesian stream bas been *ruck, and that on Mr Storey's property. Others have had to erect windmills. Messrs Sotclifle and Monsil's boring plant has been busily engaged for a considerable time past in all parts of the district. A plenteous supply of water was obtained at a depth of 67 feet on Mr Galbarith's land within the town boundary., —"More like London Every Day!"— Mr C. North is erecting a nice brick residence for himself on his section adjoining the railway road. The bricks were manufactured locally at North's brickworks, and as regards quality are superior to anything turned out in Waikato.
—Personal. — Mrs Noble, who bas been to Auckland on matters in connection with her business returned home yesterday. The Rev£H, Mason arrived by today's expre«. We have had a fair share of water this last day or two but the Rev.G entlcman is about to loop for more.
