PRISON REFORM.

Farm near Te Kuiti A practical trutalment of the Hoo. Dr. Findlay'9 scheme for prison reform was decided upon by Cabinet on Friday last, when a site for the proposed reformatory prison was adopted. Momonaki experimental farm was foond too valuable for the purpose of • prison farm, and strong objections were made by the residents of Momobaki, because of its proximity to the school and other institutions. Dr. Bay, Inspector of Prisons, deemed it advisable to select a site for a reformatory farm at Tokanui, on the Main Trunk line. The new site is nearTe Kuiti, and adjoins an area which baa been favourably spoken of aa a suitable site for a central mental hospital. The area is Crown land, and comteta of about 1000 acres. Cabinet baa also decided to appoint the Rev. James jKayll as visiting ad- ; visor to the Prisons Department.
