THE time table in connection with the through trains between Auckland and Wellington has been subject to considerable criticism by residents of places which are omitted as stopping places for the trains on the through journey. From the starting of the service the Te Awamutu people have consistently agitated with a view to having their station made a stopping place, and the arguments which can be presented in favour of the request are certainly worthy of favourable consideration by the authorities. Te Awamutu is the railway centre of a very large district, and is used as such by settlers for miles on either side of the line. To the east He Rsngioahia and Kibikihi, two thriving dairying districts, and beyond the last mentioned place is a fine stretch of recently settled country which is rapidly assuming a prominent place as a producing district. Much of this country still remains to be opened up, and when the initial work of settlement is accomplished the volume of trade to the Te Awamutu station will be considerably augmented. What is said of the Eastern side of the line can be emphasised with regard to the Western side. The dairying industry flourishes througout the district, while from Pirongia and stretching towards Te Rau-a-moa the country, which for years remained idle and unproductive,is now being brought to producing stage. The population carried by the area referred to is wry large, and quite sufficiently important

to merit consideration by the railway authorities. We trust the agitation will not be slackened and that the persistent efforts of the people will resuit in achieving the much desired change being made in the railway timetable.
