PIOPIO.

(Own Correspondent),

The necessary arrangements in connection with the Piopio school sit have now been completed and the transfer of the two acres donated by Mr H. Heroara to the Education Board has been recommended. The thanks of the district are doe to Mr Hemara. who so generously donate the site, and to Mr Jer. Orrnsby. who attended to the legal details and obtained the consent of the Maori Land Board to the transfer. The work was performed in the public interest without fee and is another evi dence that Mr Ormsby is always ready and willing to assist in ths* progress of the district. There is no doubt the school will be largely patronised before very long. At present there arc between twenty and thirty pupils, but within half a mite of the school there is a block of §OOO acres about to be thrown open for selection in small areas, and as settlement is increasing all round in other directions the school attendance sttootd be doubled in a very short time.

The detegates of the Mokau-Waitr-whena Railway League returned from Wellington on Friday after an unsuccessful trip in the interests of th» railway deviation. Although the Ongamc route was adopted we are pleased to know that the Premier recognises our claims for a railway are worthy of consideration. Are we downhearted? No!
