Tlm» roads are io a very bad state a* moat in winter, hot now that the settlers axe assured of the railway the battle with the roads docs not assume the same degree of grimness. Seeing that the Hon. R. McKeniie is now Minister for Roads and Bcridges, as wei! as Public Works, and that be advocated a system of metalled roads to tap the railway every five miles it remains to be seen what steps the Minister will take to give effect to his ideas in this direction. Since the decision as to the route of the railway has been declared properties which were in the market at cheap prices have hardened considerably, and settlers are now content to hold on to their sections.
For a prohibition district the amount of whisky that has been'.brought oot to wet the final decision of Cabinet to start the line at Ongarue speaks welt for the Natural Resources of the Ohura. Meetings are to be held to arange for suitable commemoration of the event.
