MORDAUNT AND BAILEYS BANKRUPTCY.

At the meeting of creditors in the estate of Mordaunt and Bailey on Thursday afternoon debtors were examined at length as to transactions about which the account books did not disclose all particulars. The principal of these transactions related to the disposal of two sections, and a sum of £7O said to be owing to the Bank of New Zealand. Mordaunt and Bailey's account at the bank was over-drawn up to the limit, and Bailey, in order to help the firm, parted with two sections for £BO, receiving £lO in cash, and an undertaking that the balance w r ould be paid when the titles were completed. Bailey then gave an order to the bank to receive £7O from the purchaser, and paid in his own cheque for £7O into the firm's account. The assignee was not sure that the security held by the bank of New Zealand was good as against the other creditors, and intimated that he would obtain the opinion of the Crown Solicitor as to whether the equity of redemption lay with the bank or with the creditors. The assignee directed Bailey to prepare a statement showing what money he had paid into the partnership. He also intimated that he proposed to collect all the evidence together and submit it to the Crown Solicitor. The meeting was adjourned sine die.
