The Magisrate upheld the contention, and a? a result the Taumarunui Licensing Committee, at the annual meeting at Waitara on Friday, dealt with 11 applications for wholesale licenses in districts hitherto prohibited areas. Of these applications, one was from Raetihi, throe from Ohakune, four from Rangataua, one from Waitara, and one each from Mokau and Awakino, the two last-named being for renewals of licenses issued just after the magisterial decision. Counsel was present from New Plymouth, Hawera, Palmerston North, and Raetihi, and largely signed memorials in opposition to the granting of licenses from both Maoris and Europeans were handed in. The hearing lasted until late in the evening, and it was decided to grant four applications, the successful applicants being T. P. Leonard, Raetihi; Joe Cody, Ohakune; Loftus Boyd, Rangataua; and H. M. Lund, Waitara. The two renewals were also granted, aleo the 'usual hotel licenses in other portions of the electorate.
