NATIVE LAND QUESTION.

THE credit of starting the agitation concerning the great Native land question or various phases thereof is claimed in many different quarters. The Raglan County Council, Farmers' Unino, North Auckland Counties, and divers other bodies and individuals claim the distinction of having first agitated in the matter. Without prejudice it may be remarked that only the inevitable is happening. With millions of acres of good land affected, to say nothing of the many side issues which arise from the great main question, it is only natural that in time a mighty upheaval of conditions must ensue. The mountain is in labour at present, and it rests with the people as to whether a mouse is to be the issue. As far as this district is concerned definite action should be taken by the body of the people, and this is only to be accomplished in a satisfactory manner by co-operation on broad lines. It has been suggested that a League should be formed with a view to some definite action being taken. Such a body would be invaluable to the district and with a definite platform laid down could direct its energies continuously on reasonable lines. We trust more will be heard of the matter, and that steps will be taken to set up a responisble organisation for the benefit of the whole district.
