-Civil Cases.—

Judgment went by default in the following cases:- McNatighton v. Jensen Bros.. £5 9s, costs, £1 16s; Corban v. Ball £1 7s,costs ss; Cotter v. Taylor, £2 17s 3d, costs 15s; Ormsby (Mr Finlay) v. Guilford, £27 !•>», costs £2 14s; Savage v. Jensen Bixh.. £l3 6s, costs £1 10s 6d; Matthew v. Jensen Bros., £2, costs £2 14s; Green and Colebrook v. Jensen Bros., £196 16s 7d. —Liquor Cases. - -

The case against J. Bird, which was adjourned from the previous Court day, was concluded. Further evidence was given for the defence by F. Kcely, B. Aldred, D. H. L. Cuthbert, and J. Tammadge, J. P. His Worship held that defendant had failed to account satisfactorily for the whole of the whisky and inflicted a fine of £2O and costs.

C. Chilcott, charged with keeping liquor for sale, pleaded guilty. Defendant was represented by Mr Sharpies. Mr Sclwyn Mays, who appeared for the Crown, requested leave to withdraw a further charge of selling liquor. A fine of £SO and costs was imposed by the Bench. Verrall v. Aldred and Co. -Mr Hinc appeared for plaintiff and Mr Finlay for Cotter Bros., who were sued as co-defendants with Aldred. The case arose out of work done for Aldred by plaintiff, and the facts were briefly that defendant Aldred got a cart repaired by plaintiff. The cart was subsequently used by defendants in a milk business and the action was taken against all the members of the milk firm. For the defendants Cotter, Mr Finlay contended that the work was done solely for Aldred before the partnership existed, and the cart was brought into the business and formed part of Aldrcd's contribution tQ the assets of the fipn. pyidoncy was given at considerable lengt by the parties to the action and judgment was given against Aldred for the an\ount claimed, with costs. —Alleged Cattle Stealing.- -

Rewatu Hiriako was charged with the theft of cattle the property of G. Elliott and others. Constable Mathew conducted the prosecution, and Mr Finlay appeared for accused.

The facts of the case as stated were that Rcwatu drove a number of cattle from bis farm at Mapiu to tbe last sale of the Farmers' Auctioneering Company at Te Kuiti. M« Elliytt who is a neighbour or Rewatu's attended the sale' and claimed some of the beasts as bis. Rewatu told him to pick out his beasts and also offered to rope each bf ast in the pen W< enable Elliott to nicH ?'•»> any tbat belonged to liiqi. This Mr Elliptt refused to do, and said he wanted them taken back to Mapiu and put through a crush pen. Rewatu declined to accede to the demand, and sold the cattle. Three blasts tbat were claimed hy Elliott wero impounded. After hearing the evidence of G. Elliott and J. Tapp who had bought one of the pens of cattle. His Worship held there was no case to answer. He said the information should never have been laid on such slender grounds as Rcwatu had done everything that was reasonable to satisfy Mr Elliott, and there was not the slightest ground to suppose there was any criminal intent on tbe part of Rcwatu. -Molone v. Keighley Bros. — This was an action {q £1 17s 6d for wr«*k ikioe 09 a road at Aria, vfbtcb had been taken out by defendants. Mr Hine appeared fpj plaintiff and Mr Sharpies for defendant*.
