We held a sate at Matamataon Wednesday last when we yarded 1163 head of cattle, and TOO sheep. There was a targe attendance of the public from all the surrounding districts and Mamaku and Te Puke. Forward empty heifers and cows, heifers in calf, and strong calves met with a ready sale, but steers of all ages were hard to quit and a number of pens were passed in: 2| to 3 year steers made £3 18s to £I; 2 year do. £2 17* to £3 4s; fat cows £4 5s to £5; fat heifers £4 to £4 ss; fresh conditioned cows £2 16s to £3 9s; store cows £1 lis to £2 3s; empty heifers in fresh condition £3 5s to £3 7s 6d; heifers to calve in spring £3 10s to £4 2s; dairy cows close to profit £5 to £7 2s 6d; backward springers £3 10sto£4; well grown calves 20s to 255; smaller sorts 14s to 17s 6d; 3 and 4 year old bolls£4 to£s 7s 6d. Sheep: Full mouth ewes in lamb 8s lOd tolls; woolly lambs 8s 3d; wearer pigs 5s 3d to 10s.
At Hamilton on Thursday we bad a small entry of stock bot alt cow and heifer beef penned and diairy stock broohgt good prices. Fat cows made op fo £5 4s; fat heifers £4 to £4 13s; small steers £5 13s to £6 10s; 20 month steers £2 7s 6d; heifers 35a to 455; heifers to calve in spring £3 It; dairy cows close to profit £6 ?s 6d to £8 12s 6d. Sheep: Fat ewes 10s 7d. Pigs: Forty-five sold well; slips 22s to 27s 6d; weaners 7s to 10s.
At TeAwamutu on Saturday we yarded an extra large number of cattle and had to utilise outside yards and paddocks for holding stock. Buyers were present and the sale was a most successful one, nearly every line being sold at auction or immediately afterwards. Two and 2| year steers made £3 10s to £3 13s; 20 month steers £2 7s: fat cows £4 to £4 12s €d; forwsrd do. £2 12s to £3; heifers to calve in spring £3 10s to £4 17s 6d; well grown calves 22« to 265; others 15s to 19s: 15 month steers £2 Is; 18 month heifers 38s to 445; thirteen dairy cows due to calve in August and September sold on account of Mr F. Backboune. realised prices ranging from £5 to £6 15s. Pigs were in good demand: Slips 19s to 245: weaner pigs 10s to 13s. Medium draught gelding 3 year £l2.
