The Wheat .Market NEW YORK. April 23. A further slump, following Tuesday's decline has occurred on the Chicago market. Both May and July wheat broke yesterday, and the closing price for both lines ruled 4 J cents below those tf the previous day. The bears pressed the advantage they had gained, emphasising the weakness of foreign markets as evidence that there was no world-wide shortage, as claimed by Patten and other bulls. Rapid "loss" sales ensured for four hours, during which an aggregate of seven million bushels was sold. I

Mr Patten has left Chicago. Many ruined brokers are denouncing bim as a coward for leaving the market when bis presence might help to sustain prices.
( LONDON, Arpil 23. The wheat markets are flat. The American decline is causing some ner- [ vousness regarding the future, and there arc few buyers. Two Australian > cargoes sold at 435. Australian on spot Eis scarce at 47s to 47s 6d. New Zealand is nominally 4os 6d shortberry; 46s 6d, longberry. The flour market is quiet, with the recent advance maintained. Australian patent sorts arc quoted at 333 to 31 s ex store in London.
