Further seismic disturbances are predicted by Mr J. T. Stevenson. F.R.A.S., of Auckland. In conversation with » " Herald" reporter on Friday, be stated that he considered it likely that further earthquakes would be experienced between today and the 23rd inst. "1 expect greatly increased activity tfortnjr next week." Mid Mr Stevenson, "and there is strong probability that Nganruhoe will become increasingly active during the period. Jf that volcano were nearer the sea coast I think there would be a far bigger upheaval." In connection with the influence of the sun and moon on these seismic periods. Mr Stevenson mentioned the interesting account of the great eruption of the Antarctic volcano, Erebus, witnessed by Professor David. The latter, he said, stated expressly that it was full moon at the time. Mr Stevenson has since found that on the very day of the eruption the moon was in perigee, or nearest to our earth. This was evidently an eruption on a very large scale, at the steam column rose at least six miles high, while the red glow over the crater showed the presence of molten lava in it t depths.
