TE AWAMUTU TOWN BOARD.
The regular meeting of the above Board was held on Thursday evening last. There were present:—Messrs J. B. Teasdaile, W. Kirkham, A. Wallace, and D. Bockett. —Te Awanrotu-Ponoi Bridge. - A notification was received from the Treasury stating that the sum of £3OO bad been paid to the Board's credit on account of the JE&9O loan towards the boitding of the bridge. The work will be commenced almost tHimediatety. at a total cost of £IBO9. The Board contributes one-third of the cost, the Government flniing the balance. -Telephone Exchange.- - Mr Mpddings, Inspector of Telegraphs, wrote aayrag that the charge for messages to Auckland had been reduced from Is 6d to Is.—Received. -Town Drainage.— The Chairman was deputed to imtervirwthp Waipa Council with reference to paying one-half of the cost of the drain; also to invite Mr J. Fisher, flf the Cpuac|l.to inspect the n«w roads now befog formed m the township. —New Saleyards Loan. The Premier wired raying that as all the formalities in connection with the loan of JWt> had rot yet been gazetted he was unable to deal with —the matter. —By-laws.— Mr A. Swarbrick wrote advising the introduction of by-laws. A special meeting wit! be held to deal with the puaioes*. _ . —GiffcrdV Road. - The Chairman reported at length on the Waipa County Council's propos** to close the existing road past Mr Cottrclt's into Kihikihi. and making a new road through Mrs GifforoV farm.
