PAEMAKO.

(Own Correspondent.) The settlers of Manga taki held their ioom) picnic on Htk March, which proved a great success. The re were about eighty people present including visitors from Petmako, Miiiot and Puketiti. During the afternoon games of all descriptions were played. Much praise is doe to the ladies who provided luncheon and afternoon tea for all the people, and everybody present had a meat enjoyable time. In the evening a dance was held in Mr TowMhend's house, which also proved successful. Mr Battley. of Mangaotaki, is hack with his bride* and they were heartily welcomed on their arrival. Mr Roblson. of Parekoora. is also bac?c with his bride, and his partner. Mr Evans, accompanied by bw wife, have gone to Taranaki for a holiday, and is expected back on "Good Friday." Mr and Mrs Evans take their departure for the Old Country on the 22nd. Mrs G. Elliott, of Mapiu, has gone to Marton for a few days holiday. Mr and Mrs Chore her have been away at Gisborne for a few weeks, and before returning intend to visit friends in Dannevirke and Fielding. Mr Funke. our school teacher, who succeeded Mr Smerdon, has started his duties, and is getting on well with the school children.

The turnips in this district are look* log splendid. Messrs Choreher. Rawstron, and Johrstwn having crops that wmU be a credit to any district. We have had constant rain and wind all the week and the roads are beginning to get maefdy again. The members of the Auckland Land Board passed through here on Thursday and returned on Sunday.
