The Noxious Weed Pest.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir.- I wish to voice the opinion of myself and a number of fellow settlers, through the columns of your valuable paper, on a matter that requires the immediate attention of the Agricultural Department, viz., the extensive spread of ragwort and Californian thistle on the upper reaches of the Waikaka river within a mile of the main road. So far the pest is confined to Native land, but it is only a matter of time when this curse will get a footing amongst the settlers' properties adjoining. Now, I have reliable information at hand that the Agricultural Department has already been notified of the fact, but so far have taken no steps to deal with the matter. It is to be hoped prompt steps will be taken by the Department as the matter is a serious one, as far as the settlers are concerned.—! am, etc., FRANCIS COLIN STUART, Settler, Waikaka.
