ARIA SPORTS.

A Successful Gathering. The annual sports meeting of the district was held at Aria on Thursday last." The weather conditions were favorable and there was a fine attendance of settlers and their famiiles from all parts of the district. An. excellent programme had been prepared, provision being made for every branch of sport, and the various events provided some keen contests. During tha day the committee was called upon to hold one or two enquiries, .and their duties were performed promptly and satisfactorily. An excellent booth was run by Mr Parks, who entered in his usual good style. The gathering altogether was highly successful, and should result in a substantial balance going to the credit of the Club. Much of the succe 5s of the meeting is due to the efforts of Mr J. Collins, the hard-working secretary, who managed and organised everything in a highly creditable manner. The following are the results of the various events: — FOOT RACES. 100 yards Handicap,—W. Brough 3. Maori Women's Race. —May Huia 1, Rangi Pirama 2, Girls' Race. —Nellie Dollimore 1, Dorothy Dollimore 2. Boys' Race. —F. Dollimore 1, N. Shields 2, J. Thomas 3. HORSE EVENTS. Maiden Plate.—Christmas 1 (Disqualified), Wairere 2, Kumete 3. Pace Race. — Mr J. Wallace's Bounce 1, Mr P. P. Smyth's Beeswing 2, Mr E. Harwood's Punch 8. Settlers' Race.—Mr A. Brough's Slygrogger 1, Mr W. Green's Ocean Beach 2, Mr R, Coburn's Nanakia 3. WOOD-CHOPPING. Maiden Chop.—F. Bear 1, J. Brown 2, *E. Bennett 3. Handicap Chop.—J. Harris 1, J. Brown 2, F. Bear 3. Herroldl who finished first was disqualified for not giving correct performances. Underhand Chop.—J Harris 1, J. Brown 2. - Herrold finished second but was disqualified.
