During the recent visit of the Government steamer Tutanekai to tbc West Coast Sounds a difference of opinion occurred between the Hon. T. Mackenzie and the second officer of the ship. Ihc latter was in charge of a large boat that was conveying a party to the shore in Dusky Sound, at the mouth of the Scaforth River. As the boat approached the shore tlw Minister told the officer to take the boat up the river to where an old hot was located The officer replied that his instructions from the captain were that he was to land the people at the nearest point land and return to the ship. The Minister. *t is said, ordered the officer peremptorily to proceed op the river, to which the officer replied that he could not take orders from a passenger. Another pasaenger explained that Mr Mackenzie was a Minister of the Crown. | The officer said be was very sorry, but | he still cook) only obey the commands iof his captain. Then, to the chargm I of everyone who wanted to run ashore. " the Minister said that they bad better return to the ship, so that between 30 and 40 peopte. many of them altogether unconnected with Ihf Minister s party, were deprived of their expected pleasure.
