A Board of Inquiry consisting of Lieut-Colonel Bell (President), Captain J. E. Barton and Captain A. S. Brewis, has been set op to enquire into and report upon the injury sustained by a horse, the property of Corporal Sutherland of the A Squadron, while on parade on sth December. The Board will sit on Friday, 12tb February, at 7p.m. Lieut-Colontip'Arcy Chaytor, commanding the Ist Regiment Nelson Mounted Rifles, and Lieut-Colonel Allen Bell, have been appointed to draw up rules for the proposed Farmers* Union Rifle Club, to be composed of adult members of the N.Z. Farmers' Union. Also for the Farmers' Union Cup Competition, to be competed for by country school cadet corps, with miniature rifles. Captain W. R. C. Walfer, commanding the D Squadron, has been recommended for promotion to the position of second in command of the 2nd Regiment, A.M.R., with the rank of Major. The Ngaruawahia Troop of the A Squadron, paraded dismounted on Tuesday evening, at the Town Hall, under Lieut. Paterson. Sergt-major Coleman, Staff Instructor, was also present. Sixteen men were on parade, and were instructed in dismounted work by the Instructor. The conditions of competition for the Challenge Cup presented to the Paiko Mounted Rifles by Mr J. B. Starkey, have just been issued in printed form. The first competition will take place at "Waiata," on March 20th, 1909. Sergt-Major Coleman, Staff Instructor. will attend at the following places during February: Te Aroha, 4th; Raglan, f-th : Cambridge, 10th; Te Kuiti, 11th: Otorohanpa, 20th; Ngaruawahia ■J-'th: Karamu 27th.
