KIRITEHERE —MAROKOPA.
(Own Correspondent). On Saturday, the Bth inst., we had a most welcome visit from Rev. Mitchell, Te Kuiti. - Divine service was neld at Mr Klein's residence, their little baby girl being christened at the same time. There was a good attendance of settlers. Mr and Mrs Klein are the proud possessors o e . the first two white children born in the Kiritehere. Several parties of prospective land buyers have been in the district lately, but land is firmly held by holders, the present occupiers being more, than satisfied with the district's future capabilities. In order to welcome the arrival in the district of their eldest daughter, and celebrate the christening of their youngest daughter, a most enjoyable garden party was given by Mr and Mrs Phillip Klein, at their residence, 'Ngongoronui,' Kiritehere, on Saturday, loth January. After a rough, wet night, a lovely day followed, and settlers from all directions wended thenway to the-trysting place. After partaking of a sumptuous dinner, outdoor games were indulged in till 6 p.m., when all adjourned to the house for tea. Then followed a musical evening, a splendid programme of songs, recitations, and musical items being rendered by the Misses Klein and Messrs Klein, Saunders, Kinnane, Willison, Wouldes, Templeman and Rose. There were four entries for the Marakopa Sculling Championship which was rowed for at half-tide, on the Marokopa River on Sunday, 17th inst. the winner being Mr Laurie Armitage of Te Anga, who rowed a good stroke from start to finish. Great interest was taken in the event, and a large crowd witnessed the race.
