In reporting to the Warminster (Wilts) .Council recently two of the most malignant cases of diphtheria that he had over seen, the medical officer of health said that, he could trace nothing . with the house from which'the affected children came; but after inquiry he discovered a miserable-looking cat, which had been coughing.. He ordered it to be killed and sent to the county medical officers', Who stated that it showed a large number of bacilli identical with" the diphtheria bacillus. This confirmed his suspicions that the disease had been taken _ from the cat. "How do you -remember the date?'' counsel asked witness. "It was the day' on which I received ' a postcard from my mother-in-law announcing her intention of paying a visit," the man replied.
