WAITOMO COUNTY COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Wattomo County Council was heid at Te Kuiti on Monday taat. There were present t'rs Ormsby (Chairman). Hunt, cVhoi.-s, Hoffman. I.oved.ny. Hyd«-\ Johnston. Were and Gregg. Correspondence Thf Knwhia <\>un!.y I'ouncil wrote with rt'f>r«ncp to Hauturu Road, the boundary between the- two Connti•'.•'. <y Hoffman was authorised to meet the representative of the Kawhia Council and arrange ;u to the porti.m.-i of the road to be under the control of the respective Council J. The Railway Department wrote stating the Engineer had been mctructed to sttart work on the level cro-i.,mg at Te Kuiti. on receipt of the estimated c.OHt of the work from the County. Resolved to have estimated cost sent to the Department. Mr A. -C Storey wrote on behalf of the Auctioneering Companies interested in Te Kuiti .-taleyard. consenting to let one of the yards for a public pound. at a rental of one shilling per week. Mr S. B. Sims wrote. of v ermg his Services as consulting engineer to the Council. A letter was rtv.-ivd from the Secretary of the Treasury with reference to the Manga.irino bv>n, drawing attention to a discr.;-:incv in the advertising and asking Mist « nlan showing seetions affect.,.,) ''"/ r.he loan should be sent. The Chairman and Or Gregg were authorised to deal with the matter as regards their respective ridings.

Road through Native Land— An application was received from Ngarongo Mate, requesting the Survey Department to issue a warrant to R. C. -Jordan for survey of a road through Pukenui block at Te Kuiti. —On the motion of Cr Hunt, seconded by Cr Gregg, it was decided to recommend the application and the Chairman was empowered to sign same. Stone-crusher •- The report of the Committee let op to enquire into the matter of obtaining a stone-erusher for the Council waa received. The report stated the lowest cost of crushing plant capable of turning out (mm so to 120 yards per day was about £7OO. Quotations and particulart h.id been obtained from all the leading !'wm.-!. and information had also been obtained from the Government department. - , and other SOOTCeS. Cr S'-hoics <;\u\ the obtaining of a crushing plan:, was affected by the position of the iVtangaortnl loan, as the p-oje.-tt-ul work was chiefly metalling. The loan money was not yet available and -tome time woutdevidently ei.tpnc before matters* were completed, [t would probably be better not t<< sink the capital in a plant unless the work could be got through before winter. The smalt crusher of the Roads Department was now idle and some arrangement might be made with the Department for the use of it. Cr Hunt said he was »f opinion the best plan would he to Hire an engine and arrange for the U9s o? the Government crusher. The project was experimental. Daly, representing th.- Mangnatak; Settlers' Association, requesting that the "thirds" accruing "n the section,-, on the Mangotakt road should be spent. The writer stated that two years ago he furnished he Clerk with a 1-st of the 9eetions on which "third;-." w--r----due, and up to the present, nothing had been done on the road. When the Phura County Bill was being put through, he had wired asking that a clause should be inserted bringing in the Mangaotaki area, but the reply was that it was too late. Cr Hunt said it was for the settlers to do their end of the business. The Waitom© County, on their own initiative cootd not very well ask to have a portion of another County included in their boundaries. It was for the people interested to take the necessary steps. -Caves RoadCr Johnston said be would like to get some work done on the Caves Road. The settlers bad been unable to cart their wool oat yet and be would ask the Council to authorise the Engineer to draw up an estimate for making the road safe for wheel traffic from the Mahoa Road corner to Mr J. Dunning'* gate, the authority not to exceed £so.—lt was resolved to instruct the Engineer as requested. —Otorobanga-Te Kuiti Road—*
Cr Scholes said the grader had been at work on this road, bot there was still a little work to be done in order to complete the job. He would like to have authority to complete before the grader left the district.—Authority for another four day-i given. —Mangaotaki Road— Cr Were said he wouH like the Engineer to see the road and make an estimate for the expenditure of thirds.— Resolved to instruct Engineer as suggested. —A Psemako Petitioner Hunt said the settlers were promoting a petition for the purpose of having a road put through Paekaka, from Paemako to Mokau-iti. The settlers wished the Council to recommend their application, and he would propose that the Clerk be instructed to write to the Public Works Department in support of the petition. —Seconded by Cr Scholes and carried. —Arrears of Rates-" On the motion of Cr Were, seconded by the Chairman it was resolved that all arrears of rates unpaid on January 31st. 1909. be seed for, and that notices to that effect be advertised in the "King Country Chronicle" and Auckland Weekly News. CrLoveday drew attention to the case of an Ohura settler named Boyson who had an improved farm section. Rates on the section were not to be paid until the settler started paying rent. Mr Boyson had been served with notice for the two previous years. He woutd like to have the matter adjusted and was willing to pay the amount that was due.
TheCkrk said he bad nothing to •how that no liability existed, but would look the matter op. —General Rate— The Chairman gave notice of motion that a general rate of |d in the £ be struck for the present year. —Bank AccountOn the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Cr Hunt, it was decided to transfer the County Fund from Te Awamotu to Te Kuiti Bank. —Dog Tax— The tax for 1909 was fixed at the same as for the previous year and the Clerk was instructed to call for tenders for the position of Collector, and for the supply of dog collars. Road DadieationIn pursuance of a request by Messrs Gillies and Sharpie*, on behalf of Green and Colebrook Ltd., it was resolved that authority be given to the Chairman to affix the seal of the Council to the deed of dedication, as soon as the roads were completed to the satisfaction of the Chairman and Engineer. --Mairoa Loan- - A petition from Major Losk and a number of Mairoa settlers, requesting the Council to complete the Mairoa loan was received.
