MATIERE.

The Northern Obura Settlers* Association had a meeting at Matiere on the 26th hat.. Mr C. Box being in the chair. It was resolved to urge the Minister of Roads to posh on the work on the- moat important roads in the district. The two Matiere members of the Southern Asscciatoin came in for rather a severe handling over their action in proposing and seconding that the main road grant be spent in metalling the road at Mangaroa. It was stated that the metalling contract would ansorb the whole of the jrrant available. A motion was discussed with regard to inviting the Premier to visit the Matiere district at an earlydate. It was also resolved to ask the Minister to start the railway at Ongarue before the vote made last session lapses. Picnics have b«-en the order of the day in the Obura during the Christmas holidays. The Matiere School Picnic was held on the 13th December. Mangapana School Picnic on the 28th December, and the Whenuakura Settlers' and Ohura settlers' on New Year's Day. AH were well patronised; in each case the arrangements were well earned out and an enjoyable day spent.
